Cyclones Top Foxes, Seek Revenge Against Nashville

The St Charles Cyclones have the Springfield Foxes to thank for even having a game this week. The Foxes and Cyclones both had teams who folded and could have took the easy way out and both received forfeit wins, but instead the Foxes agreed to play the Cyclones for the second time this year even though they knew they would be shorthanded. “ The Foxes have a great organization and a good team” Said Head coach Troy Robertson “ We all look forward to playing football on Saturdays and it doesn’t matter who we play as long as we have a game”.

The Foxes held the Cyclones in Check for much of the first half. The Cyclones once again kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and poor execution. On the Cyclones first possession of the game the Cyclones were driving when QB Mike McMullen could not handle a snap and the Foxes recovered. The Cyclones finally got on the board early in the second quarter when McMullen hit FB Keenan Miller on a one yard TD pass. The Cyclones continued to put themselves in third and longs with silly penalties until one minute left in the half. The Cyclones executed their two minute offense to perfection and capped the drive off when McMullen hit WR Jason Boyd for a TD and took a 13 – 0 lead into halftime.

The Cyclones would take control in the second half with a combination of good offense and a tired Foxes team “You could tell the heat was wearing on both teams” said QB Mike McMullen “They were shorthanded and just ran out of gas”. The Cyclone offense was finally looking like the potent offense the nation has come to know “We did some good things today” Said McMullen “We still had a few minor miscommunications on routes and we really killed ourselves with penalties again. We can’t be in third and thirty that’s impossible to convert” said McMullen.

The Cyclone defense once again did a fantastic job. The Cyclone Starters kept the Foxes offense off the scoreboard The only foxes score came when a lot of the Cyclone reserves were in the game.

The Cyclones are now 5-1 on the season and face the undefeated Nashville Storm on July 24th at 7pm at Blackhawk Middle School in Warrenton. This Cyclones were defeated 14-0 in Nashville in week 4.

Cyclones vs. Nashville Round 2 preview

The St Charles Cyclones (5-1) will face off against the Nashville Storm (4-0) this Saturday for the Cyclones first ever game in Warrenton. The Nashville Storm defeated the Cyclones 14-0 in Nashville back on June 26th. The first game was a rain soaked game filled with penalties and missed opportunities. No one expected only 14 points to be scored between these two high powered offenses and both teams are sure to make some adjustments this time around.

The Cyclones come into this game with a 37 game home winning streak. The last loss at home for the Cyclones was a 18-7 defeat to the Kansas City Shockers in June of 2004. The Nashville Storm has won 26 straight road games dating back to June of 2006. On Saturday night one streak will be broken “This is a game that everyone should be excited about” said Cyclone head coach Troy Robertson “ It’s not very often that two great teams play each other two times in a season, we will see who makes the best adjustments” said Robertson. In the first meeting the Cyclones were missing receivers Jason Boyd and Matt Askew and also did not have Safety Juan Martin and linebacker William Royston. “This is a little bit different team than Nashville saw the first time around” said Robertson. The Cyclones also added Offensive Guard Travis Triplett. Triplett was a starter for Memphis and then transferred to Kansas State on 2003 and will be a force on the Cyclone O Line “It’s not very often you get a o lineman like Travis to play for you” said Cyclone QB Mike McMullen “This guy could play in the NFL and this is a good opportunity to get some film and help us win some games” said McMullen.

This game will also be the first game the Cyclones will play at their new home in Warrenton/ “This is a great first game for the people of Warrenton to come and watch” said Robertson “Two of the best teams in the entire nation, its definitely going to be a good one and one the people of Warrenton don’t want to miss”
