
The Quincy University football team has announced their 2010 signing class. The Hawks will welcome 70 incoming freshman from four states and gives them a total of 145 players entering the fall.
Quincy finished the 2009 season with a 4-7 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the Mid-States Football Association Midwest League. The Hawks picked up a historic 26-20 overtime win over Division I-AA Indiana State in their season opener last year before injuries mounted for the team. Quincy has three winning seasons in their last four years and will open the 2010 season on September 2, 2010 on the road against SIU Carbondale.
Quincy brings in 35 players from the state of Illinois, 31 players from Florida, three from Georgia and one from Colorado. Signing from Illinois is Ohene Akuoko, Jordan Bester, Cody Boots, Cory Connolly, Dustin Ehrhardt, Daon Frieson, Justin Garbutt, Bryan Gibbons, Matt Gorges, Nathan Goudschaal, Bryce Heaton, Gregory Huckstep, Christian Jordan, Jarrett Kelley, Jalen Love, Nick Loveless, Nick Malinowski, Nathan Marchwinski, Jacob McGovern, Tyler McKee, Jacob Moffitt, Adam Pagoria, Dakota Roberts, John Root, LaDarion Shelby, Dakota Smith, Leon Spears, Marquece Tate, Andrew Thompson, Quentin Travers, John Walsh, Charles Whitaker, Brent Williams, Tim Wise and Nick Wozniak.
Akuoko is a defensive back from Springfield Southeast High School while Bester is a linebacker from Joliet West High School. Boots is a 5-10 and 225 pound linebacker from Quincy Notre Dame High School where he recorded 75 total tackles and three sacks in helping his team to an 11-1 record. Connolly is a 6-2 and 220 pound defensive lineman from Waubonsie Valley High School where he was named All-Conference and All-Area as a senior after recording 50 tackles with five sacks and one interception. Ehrhardt is a 6-2, 188 pound wide receiver from Taylorville High School that finished with 375 yards receiving as a senior and was named All-Conference. Frieson, a defensive back, and Garbutt, a defensive lineman, were teammates at John Hope Prep High School while Gibbons is an offensive lineman from Whitney Young High School.
Gorges is another offensive lineman, coming from Aurora West High School while Goudschaal is a linebacker from Brown County High School. Heaton is a wide receiver from Jacksonville High School while Huckstep is a punter from Unity High School and Jordan is a defensive lineman from Sacred Heart Griffin High School. Kelley is a 6-2, 240 pound defensive lineman from Joliet Catholic High School that helped his team to a Second Place finish in the state playoffs as a senior. Love is a defensive back from Waubonsie Valley High School while Loveless is a tight end from Peoria Woodruff High School.
Malinowski is a 6-4, 215 pound tight end from Mahomet-Seymour High School where he recorded 10 catches for 187 yards and one touchdown while being named Second Team All-Conference. Marchwinski is a 6-0, 220 pound linebacker from Waterloo High School where he recorded 115 tackles and was named All-Conference and All-Area while serving as team captain as a senior. McGovern is a 5-11, 195 pound linebacker from West Carroll High School where he was awarded the team's Special Team Player of the Year award as a senior. McKee, a 6-0 and 230 pound defensive lineman, is from Rockford Boylan High School. Moffitt hails from Farmington High School and is an offensive lineman, earning four varsity letters and serving as team captain as a senior. Pagoria is a 5-10, 285 pound offensive lineman from Normal West High School and was named All-Area and honorable mention All-State as a senior. Roberts is a linebacker from Zion-Benton High School while Root is a 6-1 and 240 pound offensive lineman from Sacred Heart Griffin High School that earned All-Conference honors and helped his team to two state championships.
Shelby is a running back from Decatur MacArthur High School while Smith is also a running back, from Farmington High School. Spears is a 5-9 and 165 pound running back from Aurora West High School while Tate is a wide receiver from Decatur MacArthur High School. Thompson is a quarterback from Pawnee High School and Travers is a running back from Jerseyville High School. Walsh is a 6-0, 215 pound linebacker from Crystal Lake South High School and recorded 60 tackles and was named All-Conference and All-Area while earning Player of the Year honors as a senior. Whitaker, 5-11 and 183 pounds, is a defensive back from Macomb High School and earned three varsity letters while being named the team's Mr. Hustle award. Williams is a quarterback from Olympia High School and Wise, 6-2 and 170 pounds, is a defensive back from Triopia High School that earned All-Conference honors and recorded five interceptions as a senior. Wozniak is an offensive lineman from Glenbard North High School.
Bramlett is the first of 31 players signed on from Florida and is a 6-0, 238 pound offensive lineman from Tampa Riverview High School and was named All-Conference and All-State as a senior. Cassner, a 6-2 and 270 pound offensive lineman, is from Gulf Coast High School and was named All-Area, All-County and All-Regional as a senior. Charles is a 6-2, 190 pound wide receiver from Seminole Ridge High School and finished with 32 receptions for 696 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. Chmelik is a 5-11, 185 pound quarterback from Countryside High School, who threw for over 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns last season while completing 58-percent of his passes. Davis is a 6-1, 175 pound wide receiver from Tampa Bay Tech High School and helped his team to a 10-2 record and district championship as a senior. Daverne, a 5-7 and 144 pound defensive back, comes from a highly successful program at Pahokee High School where seven teammates signed with Division I schools last season. Dunbar, 6-1 and 220 pounds, is a linebacker from Barron Collier High School and recorded 57 tackles with two sacks while helping his team to district and county titles.
Gordon is a 5-11 and 165 pound wide receiver from Lake Region High School and finished his senior season with four receptions for 72 yards. Green is a 5-10, 190 pound linebacker from St. Petersburg Gibbs High School where he was named team Defensive MVP as a senior. Lawrence, 6-2 and 200 pounds, is a tight end from Port Charlotte High School and was named All-Area as a senior. McLaughlin is a 6-0 defensive lineman from Lake Howell High School and earned two varsity letters while being named the team's defensive lineman of the year. Midgett, a 6-2 and 196 pound quarterback, hails from Charlotte High School and threw for 2200 yards with 26 touchdowns as a senior while being named All-Area and All-State and finishing as the school's career leader in passing yards and touchdowns.
Oliver, 5-8 and 175 pounds, is a wide receiver from St. Petersburg Osceola High School where he was named All-County. Padgett is a 6-0 and 190 pound defensive back from Forest Hill High School. Perera is a 5-9 and 200 pound linebacker from North Ft. Myers High School and will follow in his older brother Roberto's footsteps who was an All-Conference performer for the Hawks last season. Perry is a 5-11 and 200 pound running back from Palmetto Ridge High School and was the leading rusher in the county while earning All-County and Offensive Player of the Year honors. Phillips a 6-4, 215 pound tight end from Hillsborough High School earned four varsity letters in football. Sarginson, a 6-3 and 255 pound offensive lineman, is from Tampa Bay Tech High School and was named All-Conference and All-State as a senior while helping his team to a district championship. Schoenfeld, 6-1 and 200 pounds, is a quarterback from Barron Collier High School and was named All-Conference as a senior while finishing while throwing for 115.2 yards per game. Shelton, a 6-2 and 180 pound wide receiver from Forest Hill High School, earned two varsity letters in football. Smikle, a 5-11 and 210 pound defensive lineman, hails from Palmetto Ridge High School and was named All-County and All-Region while recorded 30 tackles and 15 sacks as a senior. Tayeh is a 6-1 and 255 pound offensive lineman from Ocoee High School and earned three varsity letters while starting two years and serving as team captain as a senior.
Other players from Florida include Will Affleck, a running back from St. John Neumann High School; Steven Baker Jr., a linebacker from Tampa Robinson High School, Darius Bing, a running back from Carrollwood Day High School; Antonio Chow, a running back from Hillsborough High School; Bryce Nachreiner, a wide receiver from Eau Gallie High School; Tyler Ostheim, a wide receiver from Indiana Rocks Christian High School; Darion Shine, a defensive back from Charlotte High School; Uliss Vargas, a defensive back from Barron Collier High School; and Corzell White, a running back from Nease High School.
Gower, a 6-1 and 196 pound wide receiver, is one of three players from Georgia and comes from North Gwinnett High School where he finished with 27 receptions for 230 yards as a senior. Joining him from the state of Georgia are Harrison Brown, a linebacker from Dunwoody High School and teammate Justin Dickens, a wide receiver from North Gwinnett High School. Quincy is also adding one player from the state of Colorado in Oliver Vanderlinden, a defensive lineman, from Palisade High School.
