Stacey Leckbee and Bailey Couch laid down eighth inning bunts, manufacturing the lone run in a 1-0 Lady Eagle win. The Class 1, District 11 at Knox County. The semi-final victory moved the Lady Eagles (12-6) to the championship game where they will face conference rival North Shelby. The second seeded Lady Raiders (15-7) downed three seed Brashear (14-4) by an 8-0 final in the other District 11 semi-final.

Knox County edged North Shelby at Shelbyville by a 2-0 score in eight innings during their conference meeting. Rachel Poston pitched an eight inning two hit shutout for Knox County. Poston fanned eight batters in eight innings pitched with no walks.

Scotland County hurler Megan Creek struck out 14 Knox County batters in seven innings plus. Knox County had six hits. Megan Creek issued one walk to Sarah Dooley in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Both sides had scoring chances throughout the contest. Bailey Couch doubled in the Knox County first inning. The top seeded Lady Eagles were the home team on the scoreboard. Devin Gudehus rolled an infield hit putting Knox County runners on first and third base. Couch made it to third on a close play.

Megan Creek fanned Olivia Nichols for the final out. Rachel Poston pitched around a second inning error, keeping the game scoreless. Megan Creek reached base on a two out third inning error but could not advance.

Skylar Alderton stroked a clean hit down the third base line with one gone in the Tiger fourth. Alderton moved to third base on an error. Mackenzie Hustead caught Kaley Dial's fly ball for the third out. Knox County stranded the bases loaded in their fourth inning.

Olivia Nichols sandwiched a hit between two Scotland County errors. Megan Creek fanned two batters closing the inning. Knox County had a good scoring chance in their seventh inning. Mac Hustead lead off with a KCHS single. Hustead stole second base with none out. Sarah Dooley walked, putting Knox County runners on first and second base with none down.

A fly ball to the infield and two strikeouts sent the scoreless contest to extra innings. Loren Smith bunted her way on base leading off the Lady Tiger eighth inning. Devin Gudehus got the lead runner on a ground ball to short for out number one. Rachel Poston fanned Cali Holt for the second out.

Rachel Poston and Megan Creek faced off with Courtney Jackson on first base and two down in the top of the eighth inning. Poston won the battle, striking out the likely all conference sophomore on a 1-2 pitch to end the inning.

Knox County played small ball in their eighth inning. Stacey Leckbee bunted her way on first leading off the inning. Leckbee stole second base. Bailey Couch bunted the ball in front of the plate. The throw to first sailed wide of the mark. Leckbee raced home from second base with the lone run and a Knox County victory.

Scotland County (7-9) was blanked on two hits and two errors. Knox County scored one run on six hits and three errors. Bailey Couch led Knox County with a 2-4 batting performance.

Apologies to Stacey. I called her Sam on the air last night. Again. Of all the brother/sister combos I have dealt with over the years, why is it the Leckbee's are the hardest one for me to keep straight in my head? Can we please ban alliterating sibling names?
