After a squeeker last week to much below average East Moline you have to wonder how far QHS can bend before breaking. With Rock Island waiting for week 8, QHS needs to come out and bury Galesburg to feel like they can beat the Rocks. QHS has looked sloppy and inconsistent all year. Only averaging 22 pts in 7A won't get you far. But the Devils have shown signs of light from their defense. Only giving up 9.8 pts a game. So maybe QHS prefers the low scoring battles.
Galesburg, on the other hand, are averaging almost 30 pts a contest. 2 of their 3 losses came to Alleman and Rock Island. They only lost to Morton by 1 and Rock Island by 2. So we know they can play some football. Their strength of schedule as compared to QHS is a complete 180 degrees. I honestly feel their offense could show some weaknesses for the Devils.

I'm with you G/I, I don't see QHS getting a win in this game. Like you said, Galesburg's 3 losses have come to teams with a combined record of 17-1, and they were in all of the games. I know that QHS has a 5-1 record, but they have beaten teams that are average at best.

I like the optimism for the Streaks here, but I am still not sure of this team heading into week 7. They have had opportunities to win each game they lost this year...
Morton
Lost by one-point, and in the second half fumbled on the Potters 28-yard line and also failed on two 4th-and-shorts in Morton territory. Neither team scored in the 2nd half.
Alleman
Trailing 14-7, the Streaks mounted a rally with 1:30 to play in the game. Two complete passes set the Streaks on the Alleman 25-yard line with less than a minute to play. Disaster struck as a pass was intercepted and taken to the house for a 21-7 Pioneers win.
Rock Island
GHS absolutely dominated a very strong Rock Island offense in the 1st quarter, holding the Rocks to -11 yards in the first 12 minutes. It was a roller coaster of emotion in the 4th quarter. Trailing 17-10, Galesburg faced a 4th-and-3 from the 13-yard line. A sweep around the right end went for 6 points, putting the Streaks within a point. A Rocks defender got hurt on the play, and after a few minutes, the Streaks PAT kicker cramped up. Backup PAT kicker missed the extra point, Rocks led 17-16. First play from scrimmage on the ensuing drive, Rocks QB Nathan Gray scampered 64 yards to paydirt, and put Rocky up 24-16. Galesburg would strike again, making it a 24-22 game with just over a minute to play. 2-point conversion was stuffed. Galesburg recovered an onside kick. Followed that up with a 4-and-out and lost.
This season has been a Murphy's Law for Galesburg football. They have been just as good as their ranked opponents, but something always seems to happen. I will be broadcasting the game on 1590 WAIK (www.1590waik.com)

Cool broadcaster. Maybe afterwards you can give us an excellent break down.
I suppose I'm just not convinced that QHS is worthy of their record. They shown lackluster effort after lackluster effort. Not much when the teams you've beat have 5 combined wins. 3 of those wins came by margins that should have been much larger. If you can't handle Moline than i'm not convinced you can beat Galesburg. They continue to live and die by what worked last season. Well, obviously it's not. Their one loss, to a ranked Alleman, they showed major concerns. If you can't win the games you NEED as opposed to the games you should than your status is deplorable. I want to believe QHS could beat the Streaks with ease but if they do win i'm almost guaranteeing it's by less than a touchdown. The passing game has been pathetic and their run game is nowhere near as strong as they seem to believe. The defense might be the only saving grace for the Devils to this point. We said they had an easy schedule for a reason; easy games with big margins of victory. Now, I'm leaning towards saying that this schedule isn't as easy for the Devils as they themselves had hoped.
