The Quincy University men's volleyball team has been chosen 7th in the 2010 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Preseason poll. The Hawks received 10 total points in the seven team league.
Quincy finished 6th last season with a 17-33 overall record and a 0-10 mark in the MIVA. The Hawks return their top three attackers from last season and five of their top six. Leading the way for Quincy is senior Peter Coley, who finished with 272 kills. Quincy opens their 2010 season on January 15th on the road against Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa at 7 p.m.
Ohio State was picked first in the conference and was followed by Ball State, Lewis, Loyola-Chicago, IPFW, Grand Canyon and Quincy. For a complete list of the Preseason poll and Preseason All-Conference team.
In other news, the Quincy University women's volleyball team recently added two players during the early signing period which will join the Lady Hawks team beginning in 2010. Quincy University announced the signings of Brittany Atkinson and Morgan Ebner.
Atkinson, a senior from Crystal Lake, Illinois, is a 6-0 middle blocker at South High School. Atkinson was a member of two conference championships and held the team's highest serve percentage. She was named All-Conference and team captain last year and was also an All-Area selection. Atkinson led the team in blocks and is also a member of the Sky High Volleyball Club team.
Ebner, a senior from Independence, Kentucky, is a 5-9 outside hitter at Notre Dame Academy. Ebner was a two year varsity letter-winner in volleyball and was named to the Kentucky High School Athletic Associate 9th Region All-Region Tournament team last year. Ebner was also named First Team All-Conference and Most Improved Player in 2008. She helped her team to the semi-finals in state last year and has been a member of the Northern Kentucky Junior Volleyball Club team for six years. Ebner, the daughter of Lisa and Greg Basham, plans on majoring in Marketing at Quincy University.
