Marion County ran their overall record to 4-1 with a 54-44 victory over Knox County in Tuesday night varsity girls play. The turnover filled game saw the Lady Mustangs open a 27-13 halftime lead to 20 points with 4:37 to play in the third quarter. The Lady Eagles (2-2) battled back within a 49-41 deficit when Stacey Leckbee buried a three with 2:02 to play in the game.

Marion County pushed their lead to 13 points late in the game. Amber Ausmus sank a Knox County three with 30 seconds to play, closing the book on the Lady Mustang victory. Jessica Redd scored a game high 25 Marion County points. Randi Lee Plunkett was in double figures with ten MC points. Stacey Leckbee led Knox County with 13 points. Becca Mallett and Lorrie Peters added eight Lady Eagle points each.

Knox County evened their overall record at 2-2 with a 45-40 win over Marion County in the boy's contest. Knox County found a way to win despite not playing exceptionally well. The Eagles scored the contest's final ten points. Both teams displayed a lot of effort. Both teams ran up and down the court, sometimes without the control Knox County coach Jesse Crawford nor Mustang mentor Ryan Wood would probably have liked.

Knox County led by as many as ten points during the first half. Marion County (2-3) closed within a 25-20 halftime deficit. The Mustangs reeled off a turnover fueled 14-4 run over two quarters, tying the score at 25 around the six minute mark of the third quarter.

Marion County grabbed a 40-35 edge on Kason Spratt's bucket with 3:45 to go in the game. Keenan Gillaspy buried a key Knox County home run ball 14 seconds later. Justin Reeves was a force in the middle for Knox County, scoring a game high 17 points. Reeves knotted the score at 40 with 2:31 showing on the game clock.

Knox County's half court trapping defense made game winning plays. Justin Reeves stole the ball around mid court and scored the go ahead bucket with 58 ticks on the clock. Keenan Gillaspy made a similiar play 14 seconds later for a four point Eagle lead. Lance McMahon sank a KCHS free throw with 27 seconds to play in the game for the 45-40 edge. Marion County was whistled for an over and back violation at the 28 second mark of the fourth quarter.

Keenan Gillaspy was in double figures with ten Knox County points. Dustin Bock led Marion County with 15 points.
