Hi, and welcome to the boards. Glad to see my efforts didn't go for naught...

My take on it is that the KHQA board was shuttered, basically, because of abuse.

Several individuals took it upon themselves to be as obnoxious as they possibly could, and several months ago KHQA announced that they were going to close the board down because they were tired of seeing their name associated with people who were behaving like goobers. They had instituted a policy of pre-approving threads, but even this didn't work as people would either change their original posts or just behave badly within the threads.

KHQA decided to replace their message boards with on-line chats on Friday nights, and info on this new format is available on the KHQA website. Personally, I attended last week's chat and it was fun... lasted for about an hour... and plan to be there this Friday as well... I would encourage everybody to show up and talk roundball with Duerr and the rest of the KHQA staff that are involved in it.

KHQA is a business, and I think they were seeing that people were logging onto their site for all the wrong reasons... to see who was getting flamed today. They knocked the posts down as quickly as they saw them, but their team of moderators was small.

We here are taking a different approach. When I started this board, my first thought was that I wanted to keep all the fun stuff from the KHQA board... the true TriState focus of both Illinois and Missouri (and Iowa, if anybody there wants to jump in) but get rid of the nonsense.

You may have noticed... or no doubt WILL notice... that a LOT of the first users here are moderators. That is not an accident. The people who are mods here are either people who I personally know and trust, or they are people who I met on the KHQA board that had stellar reputations and who it was obvious to all were just plain good folks. I intentionally tried to find folks that people like, that people can respect, and that people can trust to keep the converstations from getting out of hand. I think this is really going to start paying off as the board grows, because these outstanding people who are our moderators are good folks and hard core sports fans.

I also tried to spred it out and get people from all areas of the Tri-States onboard as moderators, from Macon Missouri to Pittslfield Illinois, to Carthage IL and Bowling Green, MO... and, of course, since Quincy is the hub of the Tri-States, it is well represented too.

Feel free to jump in on this if I am missing some other reasons about the demise of the KHQA board or if I am off base (or just because you like to hear the pecking sound of your keyboard :) )

I just joined this yesterday and I miss the KHQA boards, but do participate in the chats on Khqa.com.
