Glad to hear the Cards are not sitting on their hands completely at this point. Looks like a pretty good three man, here is hopoing we can keep a Schmolz and maybe have him be the pitching coach down the road.

Will be interesting to see. Smoltz sure talks like he wants to come back, and he shouldn't cost that much money. To me, Carp, Wain, Loshe, Penny and Smoltz plus a couple kids makes a decent start on a rotation.

Still have to fill that Holiday hole though, and address third base.

I think Ryan did enough to ease the worries at short, and the Skip experiment worked better than I ever believed it could... so really, fix the left side of the team and you should have another contender with a payroll a LOT less than the Cubbies.

That would be a great idea to have Smoltz come back later on as a pitching coach. The only problem is he will probably be playing golf on the senior tour. Infield is great with the exception of third base. Can't wait to see how they address some of the other spots.

Look for Freese to get a shot at third this year. It sounds like the Birds aren't extending multi year deals to anyone other than Holliday at the moment so I don't know if DeRosa will be back or not.

I agree concerning Freese. He can be a 20 HR and 90 RBI guy.

If he's sober he can:

Freese blood alcohol level was 0.23

Freese three times legal alcohol limit in Missouri (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-cardinals-drunkdriving&prov=ap&type=lgns)
