Highland outscored Clark County 16-10 in fourth quarter Tony Lenzini (Palmyra Tournament) play, handing the Indians a 46-39 first round boy's defeat. Dallas Job tossed in a game high 19 Cougar points. Justin Alderton led Clark County with 15 points. Neal Moon was in double figures with 12 Indian points.

Scotland County (8-4) scored the first nine points of their North Shelby Tournament game with Brashear and went on to a 60-26 victory. Scotland County was able to penetrate the BHS Lady Tiger defense regularly, Brashear (2-9) could not return the favor often enough. The youthful Brashear Lady Tigers took steps forward tonight. A very good Scotland County team was too much to handle.

Ashley Tague led all scorers with 18 Scotland County points. Shelby Salter led Brashear with eight points. Scotland County takes on Tri-Rivers Conference rival Knox County in the North Shelby girls' championship semi-final round. The Lady Eagles raised their overall record to 9-4 with a 51-19 first round win over host North Shelby.

Knox County shot the ball and defended well tonight. About the only negative for the Lady Eagles was an 11-25 performance at the free throw line. Lorrie Peters led a balanced Knox County scoresheet with ten points. Myra Parrish ripped a pair of threes' and finished with nine KCHS points. Stacey Leckbee canned a three ball during a 13-3 first quarter run and wound up with nine points. Danielle Rich led North Shelby (2-7) with eight points.

Brashear (3-8) battled back from a 15 point fourth quarter deficit in North Shelby Tournament first round boy's play. Second seeded and seventh ranked LaPlata moved to 10-0 on the season with a 49-46 win over Brashear. Anthony Ambrosia scored 16 of his game high 18 points during a furious fourth quarter rally to a 48-46 Bulldog lead with nine seconds to play in the game.

Dalton Smith made one of two free throws with 8.2 seconds showing on the fourth quarter clock. Ambrosia launched a three point attempt in the closing seconds. The shot missed the mark and LaPlata hung on for the win. Brashear center Jay Scudder suffered a knee injury on the game's first possession and was not able to return.

Taylor Wheeler led the Bulldogs with 14 points. Birdie Buck and Hayden Fouch were in double figures for LaPlata with 11 points each. Matt Thomas was in double figures for the Tigers with 11 points. LaPlata takes on Scotland County in the championship semi-finals.

The Tigers (5-7) topped Marion County (3-7) by a 50-36 margin in the first North Shelby Tournament Tuesday game. Scotland County led 30-19 at the half. Brandon Garnett led three Tigers in double figures with 14 points. Kasey Dial fired in 12 and Kyle Shelley scored ten SC points. Freshman Kason Spratt led the Mustangs with 13 points. JJ Chatfield scored ten Marion County points.

In Monday night first round North Shelby Tournament play, top seed Schuyler County beat North Shelby 81-53. Jaron Shively led the way with 20 Ram points. Tim Gorman scored 18 and Jesse Wheeler fired in 17. Jon Stoneburner led the Raiders with 17.

Ninth ranked Schuyler County will take on fourth seeded Knox County in Wednesday night semi-final play. The Eagles (7-6) topped fifth seed Atlanta 63-43. Lance McMahon led Knox County with 14 points and nine rebounds. Justin Reeves had a 12 point nine board game. Sophomore Leighton McCabe was 7-8 at the charity stripe and scored 11 KCHS points. Derek Jackson led the Hornets with ten points.

Fourth seeded Schuyler County improved to 6-5 on the season with a 57-48 overtime win over LaPlata (8-2). The Lady Bulldogs overcame a 34-30 three quarter pole deficit and sent the game to overtime tied at 48. Eight made free throws in overtime helped Schuyler County to a date with top seeded and first ranked Marion County in the semi-final round.

The Lady Mustangs blasted Atlanta 74-14 in first round girls' play. Emily Heissler led all scorers with 22 LaPlata points. Rachel Shahan was in double figures with 19 LaPlata points. Lesa Ford paced three Lady Rams in double figures with 14 points. Kaitlin Stump scored 13 and Alyssa Buckallew put in 11 SCHS points.

sportcat was right on about all aspects of the game except that la plata won in overtime. lol

Yep, afraid to say Donnie is right on that one (not surprisingly, he called the game), LaPlata won in overtime.

Actually that was one really good effort by the LaPlata girls, they really held in there and totally dominated the overtime.

That's the good news... the bad news is that the winner of that game got Marion County in the winner's bracket... which didn't work out all that well for the Lady Bulldogs.
