Illinois fired head football coach Ron Zook Sunday. According to published reports, Zook will receive a $2.6 million buyout.

Kansas said adios Sunday to Turner Gill after going 5-19 and 1-16 in the Big 12 in two seasons. A few weeks ago, Ole Miss canned Houston Nutt. The personable Nutt did well with Ed Orgeron's players - then the ship sank.

I like how your title, Troy Treasure, points out that we shouldn't weep for the HEAD coaches. The thing to remember is the head coaches will be financially fine. Heck,I believe Rich Rodriquez made over $3 mil from Michigan this year. However, it is also important to remember that when a HC is fired, his whole staff is fired too. This includes A LOT of people who actually make roughly the same as teachers make and sometimes even less. They all know the risks, but tough business to have this happen right before the holidays. Most of them will land on their feet, but some will not.
