The Quincy University men's volleyball team dropped their 2010 season
opener in a 3-0 road loss to Clark College on Friday night.
The Hawks battled Clarke tough falling 30-26, 30-15 and 39-37 but were unable to
take any of the sets. Quincy was even with Clarke 12-12 in the first set but Clarke
slowly built up a lead and held a 27-21 lead late in the set. The Hawks were able to
close the score to 29-26 but it was too late as Clarke finished off the set with a
kill for the 30-26 win.
Clarke jumped out to a convincing 21-9 lead in set two and were never threatened in
the game as Quincy finished with five kills and 10 attack errors in the game. The
Hawks best hitting performance came in the third and final set when they totaled 17
kills and hit .238 as a team. However it was not enough as Clarke hit .286 as a team
in the game and finished off the sweep.
In the third and final game the Hawks trailed 25-22 before rallying for three
straight points to take their first lead of the match at 26-25. Peter Coley started
the rally with a kill and followed with an ace while Joseph Ascher chipped in with a
kill. However Quincy could not keep the momentum as Clarke grabbed the lead back at
29-28. The Hawks were able to extend the game into extra points and in fact led
35-34 with serve and a chance to win the game. However Clarke evened the score back
up and finished off the Hawks moments later.
Quincy was led by Coley's 10 kills while Dan Dresen added 17 assists and Joseph
Sokol finished with seven digs. Quincy returns to action January 22nd on the road
when they face Lindenwood University at 7 p.m.
