Must not have been much defense played in Pittsfield tonight as the Saukees beat West Hancock 39-27. According to the KOKX broadcaster, there were no turnovers and only one punt the entire game. Keokuk was up 41-13 on Charion with three mins left when I left that game.

-Keokuk seems to play a bunch of nobodys up there..
-P'field and WH in a predicted snoozer turned shooter..
-Mendota isn't the real deal.. Rockridge making a statement.. Mendota isn't ready for the elite in 4A..
-QHS, fumbles are costly
-QND (Peoria ND has failed to put any points on QND in 246 straight minutes of football.. what a stat for QND's defense)
-Unity v. Routt should be a fun one..
-Beardstown bounces back
-CSE.. enough said
-Macomb gets a must needed win..

I don't know enough about Iowa football to have a frame of reference, but Keokuk has beaten Washington, which should fall under the good win category and the play of Fort Madison has really surprised me. I thought last year was a turning point for them and they seem to have really regressed this year. Keokuk is playing the same schedule they won two games total against last year and I was genuinely impressed with their offensive line. Not sure how many wins are left out there for them, though.

You have to take care of the ball. Also, running an offense like that, it takes a lot of discipline. You can just tell that these kids are inexperienced and do not have that discipline. Turnovers are very costly, usually whoever doesn't turn it over will win. CSE puts a very good team on the field, so I am really not too surprised, they actually returned a lot of good players, unlike IW. As far as IW goes, I just can't quite get a grip on them. They have some talent and they work as hard as anybody, they just can't do enough to be where they want to be. Hopefully they can piece together somes wins and still make the playoffs. They really could make some noise in 2A if they are playing good football.

Well said. Congrats to CPC-SE and good luck to them the rest of the season. There could very well be a rematch in the post season if IW can get it together and get at least 5 wins. I think they'll have plenty of playoff points to make the cut.

I'm not sure anybody was touting Mendota as a world beater. I said after week 1 that they didn't have much overall team speed. I don't have any reports from last night but I would bet that played a part in Rockridge's victory. As we've seen many times in the past, speed will almost always trump size. Nobody is saying much about Orion. They are 4-0 now and sitting in the driver's seat in the WCC North. They may be the only team in either division to make much noise in the post season IMO. No disrespect to the Panthers but they haven't been tested yet and I don't think they will be, maybe until they face Orion in week 9.
Oh how the "mighty" have fallen.. haha

I do not think Orion has the upper hand in the North. These teams met up their JV year to decide the conf. championship. Orion pulled the victory out in the second overtime. The Rockets fell 1 yard short. This will be a good matchup just like then. It will be Orion high flying powerfull passing game against Rockridge "D" and their straight forward run game were the game will get physical in the trenches.
Last nights game was a win for the Rockridge line. Rockridge's line was just more physical then Mendota's and the Defense bent but did not break in crucial situations. The thing that might hurt Rockridges chances is they lost their starting QB last night with what looks like a season ending injury.

Are you really familiar enough with Iowa football to make that statement?
As Wolverine pointed out, the win against Washington was a really solid win. This year's Keokuk team is as good as any team in the tri-state area this year, in my opinion. Their lines are made up of some of the top wrestlers in Iowa, and their quarterback is better than any QB in the tri-states right now.
If you haven't seen them play, I'd recommend it. They are fun to watch.

Definitely want to acknowledge how wrong I was with my IW and MonRose picks. Hats off to CSE and Macomb for big wins. Maybe I underestimated CSE, I know they are extremely talented but not very deep. If they remain healthy, they could and should be a tough out. Not sure what happened up in MonRose tonight but I expected a better performance out of the Titans. Macomb must have corrected what was hurting them, penalties and turnovers.
After watching the highlights from last night, I wonder if the fine folks in Carthage, LaHarpe, and Dallas City realized their Chargers were playing a football game in Camp Point tonight. To me, and maybe it was the camera angles or I'm mistaken, it just didn't seem like there were hardly any IW fans there last night. That surprised me a bit.
I also understand that Bill Connell is like Pat Hill with his play anyone anywhere anytime scheduling philosophy, but I agree with Guest when it comes to Iowa football. I'm not familiar with it, but the James Vandenberg State Champs team did lose a game that season, and before you comment on Iowa football, maybe look into a little bit before declaring they play a "bunch of nobodies". Maybe Keokuk is a lot better this season compared to last who knows.

Stackjack -- You are not mistaken. The IW crowd that made the trek to CP last night was very thin, especially in comaprison to the number of fans that usually travel so well with the Chargers.
In looking at the IW schedule, I can see that week 9 may be like a playoff game for the Chargers. I believe that IW will enter week nine with a 4-4 record.

Thanks remote I just could not believe how few of people were there. I guess that they are down this year they are not coming out in droves. I do think this team can still sneak their way into the postseason, but still have two difficult games left on their schedule with Macomb and Sherrard. it will be interesting to see how the second half of the season goes for the Chargers.

Keokuk is very good. They will have a couple of fairly tough opponents coming up in Fairfield and maybe Mt.Pleasant (though, all in all, the District is down, and has been the last 2 years). And as was pointed out, the current Vandenberg had a big brother who was kinda good, as in D1 recruit, starting for a Big 10 school as we speak. I saw that team play several times, and they were ridiculously good, could have easily beaten anybody from back home (WC IL). I don't know that this team is in the same league, but they can obviously play a little football. I hope to get to watch them at least once before the playoffs start over here.

Tired Old Man, Illini West should beat Pittsfield and West Hancock, and that's all I need to say.
And your beloved Macomb Bombers have all tough games ahead, since you were hyped up big time in the pre-season and now are 2-2 with CSE, IW, PGP, Princeton, and Manual left.

I will add, tiredoldman, this is again another typical Macomb year. Get a ton of preseason hype. Come out extremely flat with a bad start. Make a mid-season push, and then I predict another early postseason exit, if they make it. Same Bombers. They may beat IW I don't know and if they do good for them. And, I am not associated with IW. I'm not even in the area anymore. I just like to follow the area football.

well last nite macomb dominated monrose, ahead 20-0 at half, and won 32-14. The Hunter kid was -1yard in the first half and ended the game with 23 yards, and the other back end with 23 yards and QB end with eight yards rushing. But penalties

Is anyone really surprised that IW is down? No, then let it go. They can win 5 or 6 games and make the playoffs, but if they don't stop turning the ball over and making stupid penalties then they won't. IW is down this year, so just let all this talk about Carthage people being shocked, beause we aren't.

Like I said on another thread, G/I sure seems to be really enjoying the IW season thus far....even though they are off his radar....:)
And G/I has a bit of revisionist historian in him too...apparently a new coach means that a program has to turn in all the titles they may have won in the past. That is a new one to me. Does this "rule" apply in all sports, or just high school football? Next thing you know, he will be saying that IW never beat QND in a head to head matchup, because, you know, that was a former coach, former era. :)
Oh, well, like Wilt Chamberlain once said, "Nobody loves Goliath." And everybody loves to kick him when he is down. Us IW fans have it coming I guess. We certainly enjoyed the good times, now we get a taste of the other side of things. Hopefully we don't have to endure it for very long...

My allegance to QND is well documented, but honestly, posts like these do nothing but reflect poorly on Notre Dame. How did "playing twice the competion" help QND last season against IW? And who's to say that IW's schedule this season is worse than QND's? Their first four opponents have a combined record of 13-3, and if you think QND would roll Rockridge or CSE just because they're 3A schools, you're sadly mistaken. I'm not sure any team QND has played yet would beat CSE. Now, if saying that costs me my QND magic decoder ring, then so be it. Just because I'm a fan, doesn't mean I can't be realistic. QND has an outstanding football program, and I've long been a vocal advocate, but the fact is, they cannot be compared to a program that has SIX state championships. And when you demean that teams schedule, or make comments such as "new coach, new era....goose egg in the title column...", it just reeks of jealousy or insecurity. I'm sorry if this comes across as harsh, but as a QND fan, I get a little tired of the superiority complex you display at the expense of other schools.

Hey, don't be pawning EE off on PHS. Send him somewhere else (joking of course).
I will agree that downgrading IW's accomplishments makes you sound like a jealous fan. I'm in no way, shape or form an IW fan, but I have a great deal of respect for what they've done. Don't tell me that because they have a new coach that they don't get to talk about tradition. If that was true, we'd have a lot of programs in this area with not much to talk about and this board would be awefully boring.
As far as comparing schedules between QND and IW, I think it's hard to tell and would change on a year-to-year basis. For instance, Peoria and Manual are not traditionally strong, but are both having decent years as far as wins and losses and I still expect QND to beat them both. At the same time, I think it's hard to tell whether or not one team would do as well in the other's conference. Both teams are simply playing the team's that are on their schedule, which is all that they can do.

Both programs have been and will continue to be really good. They'll have up years and down years, it's just the way it goes. The thing that makes both of them so good is that they're down years are few and far between.

It is because of people like you that I pull for local teams to do well in their respective seasons/post-seasons. QND is a very good football program, w/an outstanding history and tradition. I thought from the beginning that the North would be the better division this year, but I'm a little surprised at how wide the margin seems to be. It's not outside the realm of possibilities that CSE is the only playoff team the South will produce, although based on remaining games I think Macomb will get to 5 wins and IW has a good shot at it.
