West Hancock began their season with a 71-13 drubbing of Unity at Unity. Played without Jackie Bunn and a key reserve. Will be interesting to see how the young ladies respond to a big test at Havana on monday (11/23). They lost a few key players but finished second in the Macomb tournament, losing only to Knoxville.

Is WH that good or Unity that bad?

Unity is that bad I think. WH will be decent but the concern is the guard play, as some of the youngins will be coming up to fill the roles left by Buckert, Koehler, etc.

West Hancock fell to Havana at Havana this past monday I think 57-47. The Lady Titans again played without Jackie Bunn who is sitting the first two games for some type of suspension. Sounded like Havana bombed away making I believe 8 three point field goals in the game. Also sounded like the Titan young guards were having problems with pressure of Havana. Not a bad loss as Havana is still a very good team that will again contend in Class A and should provide some good experience to the younger players. I think Marley Hall led scoring with around 25 points.

I think we are going to see these young Titan guards have trouble handling the pressure for awhile. There are alot of "what if's" with this team after Marley Hall. I really think for the Titans to make any sorta deep postseason run this year, Marley will hafta probably avg 25 pts a game and close to double digits in rebounding. Bunn and Yager both hafta really step into roles as senior leaders also.

Having Bunn back should help them, and I think their defense will keep them in a lot of games. It sounds like they are pretty good defenders but the guards will be counted on for ballhandling and running the show, and I dont know if they are ready for that yet.

Hey man, if you or anybody were at the game, how did Clark look?

They sure have a lot of wide bodies, but I don't know how many of them are solid at roundball.

I wasn't at the game but talked to someone who said they were. Said WH played a lousy game and still game away with a decent margin of victory. Watching the highlights on tv it didn't seem that the CC big girls were able to keep up with Marley Hall. But again, don't know many who do. She is averaging just under 25 a game this season I think.

West Hancock easily defeated Pleasant Hill in first round action in the Unity Tournament on 12/7 by a score of 70-12. Marley Hall led the Lady Titans with 30 points as WH improves to 4-1 on the season.

Up next is a good second round matchup with 6-1 Central Southeastern.

West Hancock defeated Central Southeastern for the second time this season last night 52-26 at CSE. Marley Hall led the Titans with 23 on the night. From what I heard, coach Long of CSE tried to really slow the game down and I think the first half score was 26-8 or something like that.

The Lady Titans push their record to 7-1 on the season and their next game I believe is tuesday night at the JWCC Rumble on the River shootout against Elsberry, Mo.

3. Lost to #2 seed Piasa SW 28-20 in the semi-finals.

West Hancock defeats Marion County, MO tonight 60 to 42 to push their overall record to 11-3.

Marley Hall led the Titans with 27.

Even though WH won, they went through another offensive rut in the 3rd quarter scoring only 3 points I believe.

After a 4-1 showing at the Lady Panther Classic (W vs. Lewistown 57-40, W vs. Liberty/Payson 46-21, W vs. Brown County 60-22, L vs. QND 39-43, W vs. CSE 51-35), the Lady Titans push their overall record to 15-4.

3 of 4 losses to state ranked teams (Havana, Piasa SW, QND). Other loss to Pleasant Plains who I think was receiving votes in the polls.

A couple of tough home games coming up this week with South Fulton on monday and Illini West on thursday and then at Liberty/Payson on saturday. If the IW game was sooner, it would probably have regional seeding implications as the seeds are released thursday and the pairings on friday. Will be interesting to see if WH or IW gets the #1 seed for the regional.

West Hancock defeats Keokuk tonight 42 to 35, pushing their overall record to 19-4. Up next is BPCA on thursday at home.

Just to clarify, BPCA on Thursday is at Hamilton (home!) It gets kind of confusing when you have 2 home floors!

West Hancock defeats Bushnell Prairie City/Avon on 1/28 by a score of 78-46. Marley Hall led the Titans with 24, Jackie Bunn with 14 and Cassie Yager with 11. The win pushes the Titans to 20-4 for the year.

Congrats to coach Schuster and the Lady Titans for three straight seasons of 20+ victories, the first 3 years of the West Hancock girls program.

Up next is a friday, 1/29 contest at West Prairie (trying to play for the 3rd time after first 2 dates were cancelled). Then a large potential regional preview matchup on the following monday at Monmouth Roseville.

The two teams who beat West Hancock in the Beardstown Holiday Tournament squared off today in the Plains shootout I believe, Pleasant Plains and Piasa SW, and it looks like Pleasant Plains knocked off Piasa SW 33-32. Plains is on a roll, good thing they are headed south in the tournament.

West Hancock defeated West Prairie on 1/29 by a score of 67 to 44 I think. Marley Hall lead the Titans with 35.

The win pushes the Lady Titans overall mark to 21-4 on the year and West Hancock wins the West Central Conference North title for 2009-2010. I want to say that this is their third straight WCC north title since the program started but I could be wrong, can't remember if IW may have knocked them off one of the past 3 years or not.

West Hancock defeats Monmouth Roseville tonight 62-52 on senior night at Monmouth Roseville and in a tough road environment. Marley Hall led the way with 24, 16 coming in the first quarter. Cassie Yager scored 17 and Jackie Bunn 13.

The win pushes the Lady Titans overall record to 22-4 and they have 2 regular season contests before the start of their push for a 3rd straight state title appearance.

Next up is what is sure to be an emotional farewall from West Hancock to this group of talented seniors and the Marley Hall era on thursday night against Pittsfield. Then the superfan shootout matchup against Clopton, MO.

West Hancock defeated Pittsfield last night on senior night 56-26. The West Hancock girls came out fired up and ready to play and raced to an early 10-0 lead and Pittsfield was really never in the ballgame (and Pittsfield is a 20 win team and a #2 regional seed). Marley Hall led the Titans with 28 and eclipsed the 2,500 point scoring mark for her career, putting her in the top 25 of all time scorers in IHSA history. The win pushes the Lady Titans record to 23-4 and have their final tune up for the post season tonight against Clopton, MO in the Superfan Shootout.

02-12-2010, 02:32 PM
West Hancock won their Superfan shootout contest against Clopton, Mo 47-43 this past saturday and won their regional semi-final contest, defeating a 20 win Monmouth Roseville squad for the second time this year 51-26. Marley Hall and Cassie Yaeger led the Lady Titans in their regional semi-final game with 14, and Marley Hall continues her ascent up the all time Illinois girls basketball scoring list.

These victories push the Lady Titans overall record to 25-4.

Up next, regional championship against Canton in what should be a good one.
