Congrats to the ladies on picking up their first win of the season over Metamora in the Galesburg Turkey Day tourney! They played Galesburg close in a shootout in their first game but fell 88-80. Carly Wear was leading scorer in both with 25 in the first and 19 in the second (I think). Good luck to Coach Keene and the girls this season! Hope to follow you all the way to Redbird.

Bluefan, have a question for you. Will the Chargers lead the state in turnovers and missed free throws? I hate to say it but I think Keane should mix up his style a little bit. I'm not sure if the hectic style is the pace for those girls to be playing, the turnovers are mind boggling. I know the missed free throws aren't his fault but I wonder how many games he has lost due to those two issues.

I haven't had a chance to watch them yet this year so I'm not sure what they're doing on offense. I don't think they had much of a choice against Galesburg. The Streaks have gone to a Grinnell-type of game and are always looking to push the pace and are constantly pressing. That's kind of a tough way to start your season if you've never seen anything like it. I couldn't say how Coach Keane is addressing all the missed free throws. I didn't see the stats for their other two games so I'm not sure if they were an issue or not.
It's always a tough tournament to start the year with. Sometimes we've won a couple (I'm not sure if we've ever won more than 2), sometimes we've come out 0-5. I'm pretty sure that in at least one of those 0-5 years the girls ended up playing iin Redbird in February so I think Coach Keane (and Lapp before him) think the games against tougher competition at the beginning of the year outweigh the win-loss record.

I can understand playing in that tournament but I question why Keene doesnt try to adjust his style of play to the girls he has. I think that may be one of the reasons for all the turnovers, he doesnt have the type of girls he needs to play the style he wants. I dont know what he can do about the free throws but those two things have doomed the chargers for the past couple of years.

I have a question. What schools are looking at Carter Wear? I think she is averaging 25 ppg this year and is most of the IW offense. She is a load in the post and I think she has the potential to earn a basketball scholarship somewhere.
