It took nearly the entire game but finally the Quincy University men's basketball team found a spark in their 76-71 come from behind win over Truman State University.

Quincy came out sluggish and trailed 21-12 with just seven minutes remaining in the first-half. Quincy was out rebounded 15-7 to start the game and did not get to the free-throw line until nearly 11-minutes had passed in the game. The Hawks were able to cut the Bulldogs lead down to three points late in the half but went into the break down 38-29.

Josh Edmonds

The second-half was much of the same for Quincy, poor shooting and being out rebounded by the Bulldogs which allowed Truman State to take a commanding 56-40 lead with just 7:49 remaining in the game.

That is when Josh Edmonds rose to the occasion and pumped some life into the Hawks and the fans at Pepsi Arena. Edmonds drove to the hole and drew a foul then knocked down a pair of free-throws. Courtney Belger followed with a steal and Edmonds grabbed an offensive rebound off his own shot attempt before hitting a layup in the paint. Trailing 58-44 Christian Simmons continued the Hawks effort with a jumper and swatted the Bulldogs next shot to spark the Quincy run. Edmonds again went to the free-throw line and hit a pair of shots to bring the Hawks to within 10 points.

Edmonds cut the Bulldogs lead down to double digits with a fast break layup when Belger again picked up a steal and hit a running Edmonds. After a three pointer opened the Truman State lead back up to 10 points with 4:30 left the Hawks full court press went into effect.

The Hawks forced five turnovers in the Bulldogs next seven possessions and were able to tie the game up at 63-63 on an Edmonds jumper with 2:43 remaining. After another steal by Belger, Edmonds gave Quincy their first lead since the 13:33 mark of the first-half when he converted another fast break layup.

The game was tied at 65-65 with 1:04 remaining when Edmonds came down and hit a baseline jumper to put Quincy up for good. The Hawks forced another Bulldog turnover and Courtney Belger stepped to the line to bury a pair of free-throws and put Quincy up four points at 69-65 with just 27-seconds remaining. The Hawks were able to maintain their lead by hitting 9 of their final 10 free-throw attempts in the game.

Edmonds, who had scored just 37 points in his previous three games this season, poured in a career high 28 points including 24 in the second-half. He finished the game 10-of-15 shooting, going 2-of-3 from three point range and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Edmonds also added seven rebounds in the game.

Tyler Thompson added 16 points and eight rebounds for Quincy while Andreas Coleman was the only other Hawk to reach double figures in scoring with 11 points. Quincy shot just 34-percent in the game and ended up being out rebounded by just one at 40-39. Quincy forced 24 turnovers in the game and held Truman State to 41-percent shooting in the game including just 34-percent in the second-half.
