The Quincy University men's basketball tipped off their 2010-11 season opener with a 101-54 victory at home over Hannibal-LaGrange.

After a slow start offensively for the Hawks they picked up the pace and pressure and cruised to their first win of the season. Quincy had just four points in the games first 2 1/2 minutes but exploded for 13 points over the next 3 1/3 minutes to open up a nine point lead.

Hannibal-LaGrange took an early 5-2 lead but Quincy took a 6-5 lead when Courtney Belger flashed to the hole on a fast break and gave the Hawks their first lead of the game. A three pointer by Tyler Burke gave the Hawks their nine point lead and Quincy then turned to Andreas Coleman. Coleman scored the team's next five points as the Hawks took a 22-16 lead with 11:03 on the clock.

Coleman put in a flurry of points again near the end of the half hitting a jumper and a pair of free-throws to give Quincy a 38-21 lead. The Hawks saw a glimpse of their future with less than a minute left before half when a pair of freshman guards connected for a crowd thrilling play. Tommie Anderson tossed a pass high into the air where Chris Babbitt leaped for the ball and laid the ball in for two points before coming down. Quincy took a 46-30 lead into the break and shot 56-percent in the first-half.

The Hawks wasted little time in extending their lead in the second-half opening the half on a 14-5 run to build up a 23 point lead. The Hawks largest lead was 48 points and came with just over one-minute left in the game. Quincy placed four players in double figures in scoring and had 12 players score at least one point in the game.

Quincy improves to 1-0 on the season and returns to action on Saturday in a road contest against Upper Iowa University. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Hawks Add Two Other Early Signees To The Fold

The Quincy University men's basketball team added another early signee to the fold on Tuesday when they announced Scott Hahn has signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll and play basketball at Quincy beginning next fall.

"We are pleased to welcome Scott to the QU basketball family. Scott really helps bolster a very strong recruiting class," said Quincy head coach Marty Bell. "He is a very skilled athletic player who has the ability to hit the perimeter shot or get to the rim. He has a strong basketball IQ to go along with good size which should give him a good opportunity to contribute immediately. He is an outstanding student and will be a great fit for our University and community."

Hahn, a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, is a 6-5, 185-pound wing player who is coached by Paul Rundquist. As a junior Hahn averaged 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game while being named 3A First Team All-State. Hahn also played AAU ball on Kingdom Hoops along with recent Quincy signee Matt Roling.

The Quincy University men's basketball team has announced the signing of Jordan Wilson. Wilson signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll and play basketball at Quincy University, giving the Hawks a signing class of six prep athletes that will join the team next season.

"Jordan Wilson is the final piece of a very strong recruiting class. We are thrilled that he has chosen Quincy University to pursue his education and basketball career," said Quincy head coach Marty Bell. "He is a versatile guard who can handle the ball and score well from the perimeter. He has great shooting range and is extremely quick and athletic. He has all the tools to make a significant contribution for us next year. Jordan has a great family and we welcome him to the QU basketball family."

Wilson, from St. Louis, Mo., is a 6-2 senior guard at Hazelwood Central High School where he is coached by Josh Martin. Wilson averaged 12.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as a junior while helping his team to a 21-5 record. Wilson played summer basketball with Team Rameybasketball.com. He will be joining a couple of familiar faces on campus as well having played with recent Hawk signee Drake Vermillion in an AAU Tournament as a member of the SW Illinois Jets. He is also a former high school teammate of current Hawk freshman Chris Babbitt.

The Quincy University men's basketball team has now signed five players during the early signing period. Quincy is coming off a 23-9 season last year in which they advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Division II National Tournament and are a member of the largest conference in the nation, the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
